Little Moon

The multicolored sky sweeps up in curving circular lines, deep blue turns into lavender then a light sky blue on the horizon. A lonely little full moon rises just above the strange mountain to the left. A snowcapped mountain with abstract purple lines streaking down the sides. Colors of the sky overtake this scene with the deepest ultraviolet blue clustered in the top center blending down to lavender purple in the lower right side. That purple trickles down to the mountains where white and lavender mix on the surface of the mountainsides.

The mountains suggest this scene lies in a foreign world where mountains come in more whimsical shades. The sweeping upturned sky fills the world with a sense of magnificence and wonder, the little moon seems to be a reminder of home.

Inspiration for this came from my favorite part of nature, colorful sunsets and sunrises. The colors of a vibrant sunset always seem to mesmerize me and often influence my painting sessions but this one was hijacked by a sense of whimsy when I got to the foreground. The mountain quickly took this piece into another world when I decided to let the paintbrush sweep down mixing the white and purple shades.
