Watching the Sea

Painting of a woman and a lighthouse watching the sea, crashing waves and rolling clouds.

Acrylic

12 x 12 Stretched Canvas

The background displays a lighthouse perched on a vivid green shore, overlooking the crashing waves of the ocean. A cloudy sky mirrors the ocean waves, a rich violet sunset melting into the sea foam green. The foreground shows a woman draped in an emerald green dress overlooking the scene from a cliff on the same side of the lighthouse. Vibrant, rich colors cover the entire canvas from the red and white lighthouse atop the greenery on shore to the deep blues and whimsical purple in the background.

With relentless waves crashing against the shore and clouds that cover every inch of the sky, the woman is watching a storm in the making, her hair flying behind her. The lighthouse stands dutifully on the other shore, trying to light the way for any ships lost at sea.

My main inspiration for this piece was my trip to the Oregon and Washington coastline. The way the dense forest quickly turns to cascading cliffs above a wild ocean was something I had never seen before. I always love adding vibrant colors to the skies in my artwork but the rich green on the shores is exactly how the forest next to the sea in Oregon appeared.
