Two New Original Acrylic Paintings

a sunrise next to a sunset acrylic painting

It’s finally happening! Two new original acrylic paintings are up for sale! The “Dusk” and “Dawn” paintings encapsulate the best parts of sunrise and sunset. Vivid colors of a changing sky, whimsical clouds, and a forest line to top it all off. This 5 x 7 stretched canvas duo is perfect for those sunset lovers trying to decorate their place!

“Dusk”

The first acrylic painting in the duo, “Dusk”, showcases a setting sun on its 5-inch by 7-inch stretched canvas. These colors of the sunset change from a pale yellow to soft pink at the bottom, blending into a deep periwinkle and navy night sky above. Big, fluffy clouds fill the sky from top to bottom, curving around each other as they try to make space for more. In the background, a bright moon sits in the top left corner, illuminating the pure white of clouds. Stars scatter the night sky as the light from the sun fades below the trees in the foreground. Dark pine trees cover the setting sun in the low foreground, so many that those in the distance fade to a bright ultramarine blue.

Heavy clouds covering the sky warn of a stormy night. The dense forest with bright blue trees offers refuge, drawing in weary travelers as the day turns to night. A bright waxing moon lights the way as the setting sun changes the color of the sky before their eyes.

Although the colors are my main focus of inspiration for “Dusk”, I couldn’t neglect the magnificent clouds that often spread across the sky. My camera roll is filled with pictures of the sunsets and cloud formations that mesmerize me. This piece showcases those that seem to go on forever, piling on top of one another and fading into the distance.

“Dawn”

The next acrylic painting in the duo, “Dawn”, showcases a rising sun on its 5-inch by 7-inch stretched canvas. Vibrant colors in the background melt into each other, from bright orange to peach then to mauve into an intense violet. As night turns to day the darkness in the sky is consumed by the brilliant shades of the fiery sun. Rising from behind the trees the sun casts deep saffron onto the clouds across the sky. The golden clouds blend into amber as they grow further and further away. Deep navy and ultramarine trees line the foreground, disguising the brightest part of the sunrise as it peaks over the horizon.

The sky is ablaze with fiery tendrils reaching for every cloud, a stormy night long gone as the sun begins to shine. Travelers hiding in the woods wake to beams of cascading light poking through the thick canopy of trees. Those early birds bask in the beautiful show of colors as the sun brings color back to the world.

The clouds in “Dawn” went through many transformations: first white, once they were shades of purple, and even red made an appearance. If you look closely you may be able to see the layers of paint it took to get them just right. It took nearly a year of work and too many shades of orange to come to this beautiful end.

The Inspiration

Sunsets have long been one of my greatest sources of inspiration. Since moving to Oklahoma almost two years ago, I have seen more colorful sunsets than ever before. Here there is so much space free from civilization it seems the colors of the sky are allowed to spread so much further. A lack of mountains on the horizon leaves the sun to shine its last light that much further. I love the way sunsets can illuminate the entire sky in colors I wouldn’t be able to imagine on my own. “Dusk” is a culmination of the many sunsets I have witnessed since moving to Oklahoma.

The inspiration for “Dawn” came from almost two years of living in Oklahoma and enjoying its magnificent sunrises and sunsets. If you are awake in the wee hours when the sun is just beginning to rise you may catch a spectacular view of a bright orange sun making its appearance. Sunsets here in Oklahoma often have a beautiful pink tint, but the sunrises are filled with the most intense shades of orange and red I have ever seen. I can’t take all the credit because while blending this background the orange seemed to melt into the most vibrant violet and I was inspired to create equally vibrant clouds.

Now that you know a little more about these two paintings and the inspiration that brought them to life, take a look at the products themselves. Unfortunately, you can only have one original painting so if you have fallen in love with one, get it while it lasts! If you missed the sale don’t worry! Prints, accessories, stationery, and even apparel items will be available soon!
